Where Christianity, Other Religions, Metaphysics, and the Law of Attraction Meet. There is but one creative source, and the source has given mystical revelation throughout the millennia. My goal is to point the recovering Christian toward eclectic and syncretistic spirituality and a panpsychist view of reality.

Imago Dei
So far as I can tell the idea that we were created in the
image of God is found only in the Abrahamic religions, that is, it is only
found in Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. And too often within those religions
it appears that the truth of the matter is that God was created in the image of
humanity. I suppose that one could infer from the Greek pantheon that they also
were created in the image of humanity. At least that is the case of the artwork
and myths. However, that doesn’t mean that humanity was not created in God’s
image. If there is a God, and I believe there is, then God is not corporeal or
material as we understand it. God is of a substance that we cannot see or touch.
For millennia, it has been called spirit, and the metaphor for God is the wind
or breath. One cannot see the wind except for the way that it interacts with
other things. We can see it move the trees; we can see it create waves in water,
yet we cannot see it itself. However, we can feel it. We can feel gentle cooling
breezes, it can exert force on us and it can be destructive. That may be where
the metaphor breaks down unless we are referring to spirit. In that vane it can
be beneficial, and it can be destructive.
I personally intuitively believe that the creator is
conscious energy. For me the word spirit and the word consciousness are
interchangeable. Likewise, the word God is synonymous with creative
consciousness.
This means that to say that humanity is created in the image
of God one is saying that the human is first and foremost, divine, eternal,
conscious creative energy. However, when one looks a little deeper, one finds
that the aboriginal people across the globe and millennia thought that we were
essentially and foundationally spirit. What they meant, and what the idea in
the Abrahamic Religions must mean, is that humanity is composed of eternal
spirits at the core. Hinduism and Buddhism believe that the human is
essentially spirit and on a cycle of samsara. This is the Hindu word for
reincarnation. Taoism sees the Tao as an ineffable and unknowable spirit. The American
indigenous people speak of and teach their people that there is a great spirit
of which they participate in.
Likewise, the Egyptians believed in a conscious creative
spirt and it was allegedly passed on to the Greeks by Pythagoras. The Greeks
then developed the idea of the Logos as being the creative source and the
divine seed. Plato believed and taught that there was a spiritual and ideal
object for all of material reality. They likewise believed in a reincarnation
of sorts.
Today, panpsychist ideals teach that consciousness is
foundational to reality. There are physicists and cognitive scientists
theorizing the same idea. So, to say that this concept is ubiquitous is a
definite understatement of fact.
Is it possible that we can be spiritual and not religious? I
think so. It should be agreed upon that the term God describes the creator, and
even in polytheism, there is always one supreme creative source. Is it possible
to redefine God? I believe it is. If we realize that there is one foundational
source of reality, and it is consciousness, then it follows that we are
describing God. Whether one calls the creator God or consciousness it is still
the same concept. It is describing the same exact thing. It is through our consciousness
that we participate in the divine nature. We are indeed creators, and as a
scripture states it is yet unknow what we may become. I personally believe that
it is unlimited. Yes indeed, we are Imago Dei, born in the image of God.

Christ Awareness; The true anointing
Christ, Greek CHRISTOS, means anointed or anointing. Actually, the Greek word for anointing is CHRISMA, however, they are etymologically directly related. Thus, in my view, Christ is the awareness of the divine presence within and chrisma is the awareness of the divine presence. However, I am of the opinion that for one to be aware of the divine presences one must be a part of the divine presence. One hears in evangelical Pentecostal circles and churches the term anointing often. You will hear things like that sermon was anointed, or this or that person is anointed.
An example of anointing where it is not mentioned but
inferred in Luke chapter twenty-four. Luk 24:32 They said to each other, "Were not our hearts
burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening
the scriptures to us?" This
indicates that they felt the divine presence, which is the anointing, and thus
they were anointed. After all, John stated that as Jesus was in the world, so
are we the same in the world. He was anointed because of the indwelling Logos
and therefore we too are indwelled by the divine Logos. The indwelling divinity
is our direct connection to the divine presence, the divine parent. The Gnostic
“Gospel of Truth” states that we forgot who we were, and Jesus brought remembrance
of the Father and our familial relationship which constitutes or true identity.
We are divine. All humanity are children of the divine parent. I use Parent
instead of father because divinity is androgynous. Both the divine masculine
and feminine are within the Parent.
Now on to the anointing. There is the real anointing and
there is the fake anointing which is really a product of emotional hype. The true
anointing attends the presence of the divine source. It can be described as a
burning within the heart, but it is likewise accompanied by an unfathomable
peace and love. It is a feeling. It is not an emotional feeling, but a deeper
feeling and it is like pleasant fire.
It is interesting because I have experienced the anointing
in unlikely places. I have experienced it at Glide Memorial Church in San
Francisco. Jesus or God was never mentioned. The Glide Ensemble their choir was
completely anointed. The reason was they feed thousands of people every day in
the San Francisco Tenderloin District. They house many more as well. They are
doing the work of the divine spirit. They are feeding the hungry, clothing the
naked, and giving shelter to the homeless. There is an inexpressible peace at
Glide Memorial. At least there was when Cecil Williams was pastor back in the
1990’s.
I experienced the anointing one evening waiting for the BART
train at the Del Norte station in Richmond CA. Across the tracks on the
opposite platform two obviously drunk people were arguing about whether or not
the woman was a child of God. She was forcefully and coarsely demanding that
she indeed was a child of God and of course she was as she too was indwelled by
the divine nature. She was in the imago dei, the image of God.
I experienced the anointing in the presence of two Mormon
Elders that were praying for a sick child, listless with a fever, and watched
as the child came to life and was playing feverless in the middle of the floor
after they anointed him with oil and prayed for him.
This causes me to reason how dare some individuals claim
that they have the anointing and others do not because they believe in a
certain set of facts about the divine parent? This in view of what they
consider the anointing is merely emotional hype. If there is no unfathomable
peace and love, there is absolutely no anointing! When one judges that another
does not have the anointing, they are judging God, they are judging Jesus
because he said that we are divine, the parent is in us and we are in the
parent.

The Conscious Cosmos: Why I believe in the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth
There are many scholars who doubt the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth. However, I am quite certain that he was indeed a historical figure and that he was a mystic and master as well. Was his message misunderstood and coopted? Most definitely! I come to that conclusion based on all of the writings from the first three centuries CE. This includes some of the orthodox canon and the writings of the Nag Hammadi library. Was he sent from God? Well, that depends on your definition and understanding of God. If you see God anthropomorphically as a sky parent who had a literal son, then you have missed the mark. However, if you see God as the creative source of the universe, if you see God as creative consciousness, and you see the son of God as a metaphor for individual conscious agents that are an integral part of the divine, having a divine nature, then yes, indeed he was sent by God.
It is his message, that for me proves that he was a
historical mystical figure, a miracle worker that was misunderstood because of
the audience he came to, and the belief system they held about the creator and
the nature of reality. If what I am writing scares you as heresy, my hope is
that you get over it. If you think I am trying to evangelize the world to this idea,
you are wrong. Could humanity benefit from what I believe Jesus real message
was? Yes indeed! It actually adds mystical understanding to all of the messages
and explanations that have gone on before it. This is why I believe that it
should be a part of eclectic and syncretistic spirituality. Yes, I use the word
spirituality and I use it without shame or hesitation. If consciousness is
fundamental to reality, then it is ineffable, and spirituality is as good a descriptor
as any.
Moving on to the reasons I believe that Jesus of Nazareth is
a historical figure and a mystical master. It includes the Gospel of John,
parts of Paul’s epistles, the Gospel of Truth, and other writings from the same
time period. This theory does not include orthodox teaching, anything
evangelical, or fundamentalist. Yet it does include parts of orthodox Christian
scripture. It likewise includes Hermeticism, Platonic, and Neo-Platonic
philosophy. One could add Taoism into the mix as well. All of those traditions involve a “parent and
an offspring” metaphor to the creation of reality. It is in that area that the
message of Jesus advances the metaphor. Further, the advancement of that
metaphor is dependent on a mystical message, most likely from an individual.
That is how it has worked over the course of millennia and so there is no
reason to doubt it in this instance.
The unique message in which Jesus advanced spiritual understanding
was that the parent offspring metaphor includes all of humanity. This can be
gleaned by looking at a universal coherent message that permeates all of
western civilization across millennia, beginning with Egypt and Sumer,
Hermeticism, Greek and Platonic Philosophy, the Stoics and culminating with two
revelations that Jesus made that were not explicit before his ministry. He also
taught that God was the parent, but additionally, a loving parent, and that all
of humanity was God’s offspring and an active participant in the divine nature.
All other claims prior to that had God at a distance, apart from the creation.
There was no familial reference. Today, there are many who refer to the concept
of being a child of God without realizing that it is known largely by the teaching
of Jesus.
This revelation went on to be mystically revealed to Paul. Rom 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither
death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to
come, nor powers, (39) nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in
all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God.” It
was Jesus that introduced this concept in his teaching.
Many may ask, “didn’t Jesus also teach about hell?” That
requires that one be able to clearly see the Jew-Gentile distinction that is in
the pages of the New Testament. Jesus was a Jewish prophetic mystic and miracle
worker. He did his work within the context and culture of first century
Judaism. It was first century Jewish Pharisaic teaching that taught about hell
(Gehinnom.) His references were a hyperbolic reaction to that teaching. Paul
never mentions hell. Why? Because his mystical revelation was to bring the
message to both Jew and Gentile and to present it as a spiritual reality. One
can see the Jew-Gentile distinction everywhere in the New Testament and Paul
taught that the wall of separation was torn down by the ministry of Jesus. So
then, Jesus’ ministry was twofold. First, it was to call the Jewish nation to
change their mind about their relationship with deity. Second, it was to inform
both Jew and Gentile that God, the creative source was a loving parent.
In the Gospel of Truth, accredited to Valentinus by Irenaeus,
the mission and message of Jesus was to overcome the forgetfulness that
humanity has and remember its true nature which is divine. God the Father is a
loving parent and upon incarnation humans no longer remember the fact. Jesus’
message was to restore that knowledge. Valentinus was a student of Pauline
Christianity and founded a group of believers that were called Valentinians
after him. They were considered heretics by the early church fathers, and their
works were destroyed. It was the serendipitous find of Nag Hammadi in 1945 that
gave us many of their writings. I am not saying that they had all and exclusive
truth. I am saying that they had an important part of the Jesus message, and it
would be beneficial today. Not that it is necessary for us to carry on as the
offspring of the creator or to gain some kind of eternal nature. We are that
already. But it would help us to realize that we are divine and that the divine
is love and love is out natural state of being if we but remember who we really
are.
Jesus realized that he was anointed with the divine Logos or
the mind of God. This made him God’s son and he went on to teach that the same
thing is true of each and everyone of us. I will close this with Paul’s words.
This is from a letter that is credited to Paul by most all scholars.
Php 2:5-8
“Let the same mind
be in you that was in Christ Jesus, (6) who, though he was in the
form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,
(7) but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in
human likeness. And being found in human form, (8) he humbled
himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.”
We all do this when we incarnate. We become obedient even to
the point of death. It does not have to be a cross. In our emptying process, we
forget our divinity and Jesus restored that. That message is so unique that I
believe there really was such a person that delivered it.

The Conscious Cosmos: Conquering the Cosmos
John 16:33 “I have told you these things so
that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be
courageous! I have conquered the world.”
According to the author of the gospel of John, Jesus said what
is written above. This is a bold claim but I believe it is accurate with regard
to our relationship to material and corporeal reality. According to Jesus teaching
and claims, how did he overcome the world? This is a question that I hope to
answer and also, what did he overcome or conquer? Let’s look at some of the
Greek words that make up this claim.
World is translated from the Greek word kosmos. The Greek
word kosmos describes and defines the known universe and all of material and
corporeal reality. Suffering, tribulation, trouble is from the Greek word
thilipsis. It means all of the above meanings. Finally the Greek word nikaho
means conquered or overcome. So, I believe that Jesus is actually saying that
he has conquered material reality and all of the trouble it presents.
How then did he conquer it? He conquered it with knowledge
and faith. In other words, he had faith in his intuitive knowledge. His intuitive
knowledge told him that he was the eternal offspring of the creator. He took
that intuitive knowledge and applied trust to it. It was a fact in his mind
that he relied on. He saw creative consciousness as the parent. While he called
it father it was both feminine and masculine. If one believes in as above so
below and as below so above then it is only reasonable that the divine parent
is both genders. We see in the material world that it is the combining of the
two genders that produce offspring. Therefore, the divine parent is the perfect
description of creative consciousness that many call God. Thus, Jesus
intuitively realized his divinity and went on to explain that it is true of ALL
humanity!
That is the good news and it is truly good news. Being an
eternal expression of creative divinity is good news we can use. He goes on to
explain that by the very nature of the material world, the kosmos, the universe
there is the likelihood of trouble, suffering, tribulation etc. However, there
is likewise the opportunity for pleasure, peace and love. There is the possibility
of experiencing the knowledge of the parent and thereby expanding that knowledge.
Eternity is now. It is always now. It has no future, and it
has no past. Therefore, the knowledge that one is eternal and eternally part of
the creator and creation, is what overcomes or conquers the kosmos, the
material universe. This is the perspective that embraces faith in the eternal
conscious creator. It is also the source of theodicy.
Both spiritual and material wickedness is a thought form
linked to the material universe. While it has real effects, it does not have
eternal effects. Therefore, the nature of creative consciousness which is love
and peace conquers the material universe always. Putting trust in that
knowledge lets each of us individual conscious agents, offspring of the parent
conquer as well. Be of good cheer and have peace!

God Beyond Religion: The Real Purpose and Meaning of the Resurrection
“Nothing redeems us from this world but we are of the All, and we are saved. We have been saved from start to finish. Let us think about it in this way; let us accept it in this way”. ~Meyer, Marvin W.; Robinson, James M.. The Nag Hammadi Scriptures (p. 54). HarperCollins. Kindle Edition.
It is past time that we take back and regain the terms and
concepts that orthodoxy, fundamentalism, and evangelicalism stole from the
mission and message of Jesus. It is time to recognize that oh so fearful word,
heretic is just a word used by people to gain control over other people. There
are so many terms that orthodoxy repurposed for control that overturning it will
be a big job.
One such term that I will address today is resurrection. It
is only fitting to do so on resurrection Sunday! Another that has to be
included is “the fall.” So, before I deal with the resurrection, I will briefly
deal with the fall. What really was the fall? It was a fall into forgetfulness.
That was the central message of the Gospel of Truth. What was forgotten? The
fact that we are pre-existing divine souls. It is similar to the emptying that
Paul wrote about in his letter to the Philippians. Upon incarnating into
material reality, we empty our knowledge, in other words forget that we are
indeed an aspect of the divine Logos, or the divine mind. That is our spiritual
nature. Thus, being redeemed from the fall simply means that we are able to
regain the knowledge of who we really are. This was the message and mission of
Jesus of Nazareth. He chose to do this before the foundation of material
reality.
How then does the resurrection redeem us from the fall? If
we take the message of Jesus that was spoken while he was living and couple
that with the resurrection, we have a solid proof that we are indeed partakers
of the divine nature, and that we can remember and exploit that knowledge. It
is the catalyst for love within us. Jesus’s message was that we are the
offspring of a loving parent. He went on to teach that we are incarnations of
the divine mind, or divine Logos. Paul said, let the same mind be in you that
was in Christ Jesus. What mind was that? It was the mind that believed that God
was a loving parent, (in deity there is both the masculine and feminine aspect.)
It was a mind that believed our purpose here on earth was to develop love for
one another. It was a mind that knew he was eternal and eternally the offspring
of God.
The proof of this message was substantiated in the
resurrection from the dead. It was the proof that individual souls are indeed
eternal. Let’s face it. Jesus’s sacrifice happened when he incarnated. At that
point he was going to die at some point. To die at the hands of the Roman
occupation, at such an early age, was a way to stamp an exclamation point on
his sacrifice. God did not sacrifice his son. The sun sacrificed himself as a
proof of our divinity. Think about it, God did not need a blood sacrifice to
forgive humanity for being the way it was created. It is archaic to think that
animal sacrifice was necessary to appease the wrath of a God who is defined as
love; defined as agape love; a love that keeps no record of wrongs.
I do not believe all of Valentinian Gnosticism. But the
above quote from the Nag Hammadi scriptures is from the “Treatise on Resurrection”
and that’s why I share it. The truth is we are all saved! The truth is we are
all eternal! The truth is that we are all divine!

God Beyond Religion: What is the Proper Use of the Bible?
So many people have been traumatized by evangelical and fundamentalist Christianity. This is in large part due to the weaponizing of the bible. So here are the questions. Is there a place for the bible in spirituality? Is there a way to view the bible that does not create trauma and actually informs our spiritual journey? What was Jesus real message and did Orthodoxy coopt it? How did the bible finally get to the place that evangelical and fundamentalist are able to use it as a weapon?
Let’s begin with the last question and address the elephant
in the room. The bible is not the word of God. Let me repeat this. The bible is
not the word of God. I make this statement by the teaching of the bible itself.
According to the bible in the Old Testament, the Torah is the word of God, and
in the New Testament the gospel or Jesus is the word of God. Evangelicals will
kick, spit and yell claiming this is not so but no matter it is the truth,
even by biblical standards. I will not relitigate this as I have written so
much in the past about it.
Now for the question, “How did the bible finally get to the place
that evangelical, and fundamentalist are able to use it as a weapon?” It became
final with the reformation and the doctrine of sola scriptura. The reformers
were trying to eliminate the magisterium of the pope and claimed sola scriptura
which means scripture alone. However in the early states of the Reformation it
was not scripture alone for all faith and practice but scripture alone for the
method of salvation. Over time, it was solidified into scripture alone for all
faith and practice and ultimately the doctrine of inerrancy and infallibility
came into being. That was the final death knell that weaponized the scripture
and turned it into the written word of God. Still, it is a gross and damaging
error!
The reason is that the bible is an anthology of myths,
cultural input, and mystical revelation. Anyone willing to use common sense
would realize that the creative source of the universe would not codify eternally
a set of unchangeable rules in the iron age. Especially with a society that
believed in animal blood sacrifice to appease God. Further, if one is being honest,
they would admit that every time the word of god is mentioned in the New
Testament, the authors always meant gospel and not scripture. So, there is
absolutely no plausible reason for the weaponizing of the bible. Further, those
who would say that the bible is the “whole counsel of God” do not even
understand that the verse meant the whole purpose of God and not counsel as in
a document or teaching. Literalism always leads to ignorance when interpreting
writing. Those who teach inerrancy and infallibility, no matter how educated,
are influenced by rigid dogma.
The question (“is there a place for the bible in
spirituality?”) has an affirmative answer if one looks at the literature for
what it is. As stated above it is an anthology of myths, cultural input, and
mystical revelation. So, in that vane it has a place in spirituality. Of
course, it is necessary to use intuitive discernment to find its value. It may
be instructive to provide a bulleted list of the possible benefits of the
mystical revelation within the bible.
·
The notion that God is love.
·
The definition of love.
·
The definition of the fruit of the spirit.
·
That the Logos indwells all of humanity
·
Consciousness is the creative source of the universe.
·
With a proper understanding of the garden myth
and Adam and Eve, a figurative explanation of human pathology and the source of
evil.
The first five are self-explanatory but the sixth one needs
some further explanation. So what is the benefit of the garden myth in Genesis?
It explains that mortality coupled with the survival instinct (necessary for
human and animal survival) combine to explain greed and therefore, explain all
of the evil present in the material world we live in.
However, the remedy for that is not a sacrifice to God of a
human prototype. It is the knowledge that we are divine and that the creative
source is a loving parent. This is what makes the “Gospel of Truth” important in
explaining the mission and teaching of Jesus and just exactly how one could
look at him as a savior. It is indeed too bad that so much of Gnostic writing
was destroyed. Not that Gnostic writing was literal truth, but that it
contained mystical revelation that helps explain reality and our place in the
material world. It also shows the problem with literal translation and meaning
for any religious texts.
The answer to the question (“What was Jesus real message?”)
can only be properly understood with the entire writings of the second and
third centuries CE. This would include parts of the New Testament, the Gnostic
texts, the Corpus Hermeticum, and Neo-Platonic texts. The best answer I have
found is that it was to correct the forgetfulness that souls adopt upon
incarnating into material reality. This is the main idea stated in the Gospel
of Truth. It resonates deeply with me.
To answer the question (Is there a
way to view the bible that does not create trauma and actually informs our
spiritual journey?) is somewhat complex. First it would have to be void of any
of the dogmatic voices that play in the head of one who was brainwashed with
fundamental and literal teaching. If this cannot be accomplished there is
little chance that it can inform the spiritual journey of such a one.
If one can really understand and believe
what the bible is, an anthology of myth, cultural input and mystical
revelation, then one can gain spiritual knowledge from it. This requires
discernment and intuition but I think there is a benefit from the bible. So far
as I know it is the only sacred text that states God is love. Further, it is
the only text that gives the definition of love and the fruit of the spirit. Especially
in the Gospel of John, but in other places as well it explains that we are
divine. This message is very beneficial.
How then can one discern what is
mystical revelation from the creative source? Here are the criteria I use. Does
it promote love as defined by Paul? Will it produce the fruit of the Spirit?
Does it inform us of our familial connection to God? Does it show God as a
parent? In fact, you can apply this to all mystical writings. It is true of the
Corpus Hermeticum. It is true of the Tao.

God Beyond Religion: Progressive Awakening; Two Mystical Contributions from the Jesus Narrative
One of my friends on Facebook posted that he realized that he was arrogant when he was an evangelical pastor and that it was a waste of precious time. The arrogance came into play as he thought that God had given him a message every week and that it was important for the people to come and hear it every week. He went on to say that he was delivered from that. This caused a light bulb moment for me because I can recall doing the same thing. I too thought that God was giving me a weekly sermon that was spiritually important for those who I was teaching and preaching too. What I realized with this is that we all, humanity, are going through, and are at different stages of an awakening to deeper consciousness and deeper reality. It could be that this is because of the dawning of a new age, literally. The age of information, the age of Aquarius. I must admit that the presupposition that informs this idea for me is panpsychism. It is best described by the idea that was stated in the Kybalion, “the All is Mind, the universe is mental.” As the days go by, I become more and more convinced of this view of reality.
So, to differentiate me from my online friend, I’m not sure
that it was a waste of time. Rather it was a transition from one reality to a
deeper reality. I must take into consideration that I likely chose my life
path, which means that I chose to be born into a fundamentalist Christian
family in 1946 for a specific reason, and for a specific expansion of
consciousness having a material and corporeal experience of learning. I should
perhaps relate the nuance of the family I was born into. My mother, and my
older sisters were fundamentalist Baptists all the way, however, my father was
raised catholic but did not really attend any church regularly, and a childhood
memory I have had all these years, is when my mother would go off on a tangent
like, the Roman Catholics weren’t really saved, my dad would say. “Iva, I think
you’ll be surprised when you get to heaven who’s there. I guess that I sensed
that he did not take the fear of hell all that seriously, and that likely
rubbed off on me. You can find a more
in-depth explanation of my interesting transition from fundamentalist to
agnostic, to mystic, back to evangelical, and finally back to an eclectic and
syncretistic spiritual mystic that is probably more accurately a panpsychist. I
will post a link to it at the bottom of this article.
So, why wasn’t my foray into evangelicalism a waste of time?
That is the question that is the main point of this post. While I understand
that orthodox Christianity and especially evangelical orthodoxy is very toxic,
there is a fairly important mystical message within the Jesus Narrative. It has
nothing to do with sin and salvation, and for those who have suffered spiritual
abuse, and spiritual trauma by this concept, they are unlikely to be comforted
by this realization, at least for a long period of healing, but I will state it
none the less.
If one sees some type of spirituality as important, then
this realization is best found in a part of the Jesus story. Whether one
believes that Jesus was an actual historical person or not, (I believe he was),
this message or realization is important either way. I will readily admit that
myth is an important part of all religions and spiritual traditions. Some are
beneficial and some are not, but myth has proven to be important throughout
millennia in the upward spiral of humanity. So, without further ado let me get
to the two concepts. They are what has been called the KENOSIS, and the
resurrection.
I do not want to minimize the good teaching about ethics and
love found in the sermon on the mount or various other parts of the New and Old
Testaments, but the two elements that are missing, at least explicitly in other
spiritual traditions is the KENOSIS and the RESURRECTION. I base this on the
idea that panpsychism is correct, and therefore, it is most likely that an
eclectic, syncretistic spirituality is the best way to proceed. This requires
that one uses intuition, the presence of spirit within, to discern what is
beneficial from a wide variety of spiritual and religious traditions.
Let’s first examine the concept of KENOSIS. This is an idea
that Paul mentions in his epistle to the Philippians. I will quote it from the
NRSV. Php 2:5-8 “Let the same mind be in you that
was in Christ Jesus, (6) who, though he was in the form of God, did
not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, (7) but
emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And
being found in human form, (8) he humbled himself and became
obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.” Orthodoxy has
limited this to Jesus, but that does not acknowledge what the verse actually
says. Paul emphatically states, “Let the same mind be in you that was in
Christ Jesus.” To literally take
Paul at his word would require that we have the same view about our deity as
Jesus did. Let that sink in. According to Paul in this passage, we as humans,
should think the same way about ourselves as Jesus thought about himself. What
did he think? He thought that he was the incarnation of the Logos, the
conscious, creative word of God. He thought that he was the son of God, and
that God was his father. This means that he thought that he was the offspring
of the creative energy source.
He also thought that he was the anointing (Christ) of the
Logos, and so if we have the same mind, then we would think that we as well are
the anointing (Christ) of the Logos. You may ask was Jesus unique in this
regard? I would say that his uniqueness is in the fact that he was the
firstborn of a new humanity. He was the first one to recognize that we are the
anointing of the Logos. The writer of John’s first epistle expressed it this
way, “as Christ is in the world, so are we!” It seems very clear that
Paul’s meaning was a lot more profound than orthodoxy had expressed. In fact,
in a lot of ways, orthodoxy has been a real detriment to the mystical
understanding that the Jesus Narrative provides to all. I am advocating for
using the mystical messages of Christianity to benefit people who are far more
eclectic in their spirituality. These two understandings of Jesus are a benefit
for everyone. You don’t have to embrace Jesus as the savior from sin to realize
that woven within the message is Jesus the mystical master that can improve
ones understanding of spiritual awakening.
Now let me bring this concept’s implications to the one who
accepts eclectic spirituality as a valid path. I mean, the one who draws from a
variety of spiritual traditions to inform their view of reality, and most
especially their place in spirituality. Many of the reincarnation beliefs teach
that we forget our past experiences upon arrival into the earth plane at birth.
That is a perfect description of Kenosis. In these traditions it is the goal to
remember past experience and knowledge little by little with expansion in mind.
Kenosis in the Greek is an emptying. Emptying and forgetting are the same thing
when it comes to past knowledge and experience. Further, if as some cognitive
scientists believe, we are conscious agents, or as Dr. Bernardo Kastrup
believes we are dissociative personalities of the one universal conscious,
while we are equal with creative consciousness, we empty that knowledge. The
Jesus story provides an explanation of how we forget former lives and former
information when we incarnate. It is via KENOSIS.
Now let's look at the resurrection. It also is an important
part from the Jesus narrative. The only way that we can be sure that we are eternal
is if we are resurrected. That is exactly what is claimed that Jesus did or had
done to him. There are no other religions the claim to have the resurrection
phenomenon. This is yet another place where parts of the Jesus narrative can
inform all religions and it isn't necessary to accept the orthodox position of
sin and salvation. Rather, one who is accepting of eclectic and syncretistic
spirituality can glean truths from various traditions and amalgamate them in
the one view of spirituality. So for instance, 1 can include kenosis and the
resurrection with reincarnation and form a better picture of spiritual reality.
It's possible that when Jesus spoke of being born again he
was referencing reincarnation. He was speaking in spiritual terms. Therefore,
being born again, could allow one to realize that they will have the
opportunity to experience many lives on the earth plane and forget the past
lives only to rediscover the important truths that carry over into the growth
of the individual spiritually. This adds additional experiential information
and knowledge to the whole and is likely the reason for our incarnating in the first
place. This idea allows Jesus to actually be revealing additional truth to what
was already present in other spiritual traditions. This could be true even of
Judaism if one realizes that the Kabbalah accepts many of the characteristics
eastern spiritual traditions.
While it is absolutely not necessary that one embraces the
Jesus narrative or for that matter studies it at all it is still true that
understanding kenosis and resurrection are important concepts in eclectic and syncretistic spirituality. It seems a shame to me that orthodoxy and
Christianity in general has developed a dogma so toxic as to make it impossible
for those who have been traumatized by it to adopt certain revelations into
their spiritual view.

God Beyond Religion: A Christ, Taoist, Idealist, Panpsychist Ontology
The lyrics of John Lennon’s “Imagine” is something to consider and even move toward. A siblinghood of humanity that is inclusive and not exclusive. This could be achieved without sacrificing various kinds of spirituality as long as the exclusive nature of them is eliminated. Whether it is religion, philosophy, or national division and divisiveness it is unnecessary with the simple addition of tolerance. Tolerance and acceptance should be at the heart of any ontology. Beating swords into plowshares is a noble goal. It is in this vane that I would suggest the above title. It is not designed to start another divisive religion, but rather to provide a way in which people can honor their traditions, by embracing the best and eliminating the worst of belief systems. Letting go of terms like dogma, orthodox, and heterodox, and further letting go of the ideas that exist behind the terms is the first necessary step.
Still, there is nothing wrong with holding onto spiritual
explanations of the nature of reality. For example, the Christ concept is a reasonable one when considering that it is the Christ of the Logos, or in other
words, the anointing of creative consciousness. Christ as Richard Rohr has so
eloquently stated is not Jesus of Nazareth’s last name. It is important to
realize what the terms meant within their original language and too their
original audience. Christos was an anointing, a rubbing on of an ointment as
done for anointing kings. Logos was a word but in the Greek philosophical sense
it was creative consciousness. So, the universal or cosmic Christ is a
description of the anointing or the presence of the Logos. Jesus taught that it
was the natural state of humanity. While he acknowledged his Christ, he also
saw it as being for everyone. He did not think it was unique to him but
available to all. This is one of the main themes of John’s gospel.
A concept that fits well with the Christ of the Logos is the
Tao. Simply stated, the Tao, pronounced Dao is the creative conscious source of
the universe and is similar in nature to the Hermetic concept of “the-all.” It
should be noted here that most all civilizations had in one way or another the
concept of the universal creative source. Many of the indigenous tribes,
especially of the Americas called it the great spirit. While it is easy in
retrospect to romanticize the concept of the great spirit. The indigenous
tribes certainly had their share of wars, violence, and inhumane practices it
is interesting that the concept was essentially similar to the concept of
pneuma or qi (chi.) The life force and breath have been ubiquitous in cultures
over millennia in describing the prime source of life and energy.
For an ontology to be plausible it needs to have consistency
in agreement across multiple areas. It must at the very least take account for
previous spiritual traditions and recognize the truth that is embedded with all
of them to one degree or the other. It must also take into consideration
scientific thought, theories, and established data. However, it is important to
be able to recognize that science too has dogma, and dogmatic factions that
make it difficult for the non-scientist to easily filter out the dogmatic from
the exploratory and theoretical. When one recognizes that within the scientific
community, especially within quantum and astro-physics, that there is a wide
variety of disagreement. Likewise, when it comes to the nature of consciousness
there is equally a wide range of theories. While there is currently an effort to
advance those aspects of science, consciousness itself is a difficult topic to
study with mathematical precision. Some are trying, especially Dr. Donald
Hoffman, but it is in the infancy stage, and most are locked into the dogma of
physicalism and believe that consciousness is an evolutionary product of the
brain. However, in so doing they simply bypass the hard problem of
consciousness.
This in my view devalues the purview of logic and
epistemology. There are things that can be knowable that are not mathematically
provable or modeled. It is especially in this area that panpsychist idealism offers
a more plausible explanation of reality than the materialist, physicalist
explanation that stops short of explaining the why of existence. In a nutshell,
the Panpsychism Idealist view sees consciousness as the foundational basis for
reality. It is not completely out of the question given the nature of the
quantum field of waves that collapse into particles based on observation.
Further, it explains the many paranormal and supernatural occurrences
that are common over millennia that have been reported ubiquitously across
cultures, eras, and among a plethora of reliable people. If you name the
anomaly, Panpsychist Idealism explains it.

God Beyond Religion: Musings of a conscious universe, “it’s all one thing Part 2”
Panpsychism makes it all one thing:
If the universe is a creation of consciousness. If the main
energy source of the world around us is consciousness. If indeed consciousness
creates reality, then all phenomena stem from one thing. And to state the
obvious, that one thing is consciousness. This would include normal phenomena,
and also paranormal phenomena, or anomalous phenomena. Over the centuries,
there have been a multitude of stories about anomalous phenomena. So, what are
the various forms of these anomalies? Well, there is the UFO/UAP phenomenon.
There is the spirit/ghost/poltergeist phenomenon. There is the cryptid
phenomenon. There is the power spot or power vortex phenomenon. There is the
interdimensional portal phenomenon. There is the psychic, clairvoyant, medium,
telepathic phenomenon. I do not claim this list is exhaustive as I have
probably missed many paranormal phenomena, but I simply want to point out that it is widespread. It is widespread over the planet, and from stories of the past it
is widespread over time. In fact, from petroglyphs and hieroglyphs it goes back
thousands of years, and conservatively, fifty centuries, and quite likely one
hundred centuries. What is the old adage? Where there is smoke there is fire,
and the smoke of these ubiquitous stories, point to a fire of plausibility. I
like the term, preponderance of evidence. In this regard, the preponderance is
overwhelmingly evident.
All of these anomalous phenomena have been met with
skepticism over the ages, and I would say that over the last one hundred plus
years, they have been ridiculed. And yet, over this same time frame, religions
with likewise wild claims, have been accepted without question. Who are the main ridiculers? Dogmatic
Christian groups and dogmatic materialist, physicalist scientist. The obvious
reason is that they interfere with the dogma and bring it into question. Yes
indeed, I am linking materialist, physicalist scientists with dogmatic religion.
There is a level of hubris in both groups that is unmatched. Likewise, they
both have a vested interest in downplaying and debunking these phenomena.
On the other hand, the mental universe has been a continuous
story across cultures for millennia. While I mostly understand it from the
perspective of hermeticism and Taoism it is prevalent in other spiritual
traditions including animism. So back to the concept of preponderance of the
evidence. There is a preponderance of views about mental alchemy. The Logos,
which is the conscious word of the creator has been widely reported for
thousands of years beginning with Pythagoras and the Greeks who claimed that it
originated in ancient Egypt. Circle all the way to 2022 and you have many
scientists that hold a view called panpsychism. Of course, I have often
mentioned Dr. Donald Hoffman and Dr. Rupert Sheldrake as two scientists that
believe that reality is first and foremost mentation. Hoffman is a cognitive
scientist and Sheldrake is a biologist that has developed a theory describing
morphic fields of resonance in animals and humans.
But now breaking it down into the categories. There are
Multiple reports annually about flying saucers. There are thousands per year in
the USA. In fact, in 2020 there were 7200 reports in the USA alone. Many of
these reports are from the military and military pilots who have seen and
captured them on cameral. Added to this, there is radar evidence to back them
up. Not only do they fly at unheard of speeds and maneuver in ways that impossible
to our current technology, but they can zip into the water and emerge. In fact,
the evidence is beginning to show that some of them at least may have a base of
operations in the oceans. It is a phenomenon that affects the navy more than
the air force.
So, what is the implication of these craft? What is the implication
of the presence of other worldly or extraterrestrial beings observing us? I say
other worldly because they may be extra-dimensional or they could be from
another planet, star system within the galaxy. The fact remains that if the
universe is mentation, then it is possible for worm holes and portals to be accomplished
by mental manipulation, a skill that we have not yet understood or developed. If
from another dimension it could be that they have constructed UFO’s, UAP’s, and
USO’s that help maneuver in this three-dimensional world. One thing for sure is
that it expands greatly the concept of the creative source of the universe and eliminates
a god in the box that religion has created. It also establishes the fact that
what was once ridiculed and considered mass hysteria is now admitted existing
by governments around the world. It is not a quantum leap to believe that all paranormal
activity that is widely reported across cultures and time has validity as well.
But what about spiritual dimensions? Could they simply be
dimensions within the universe that we as yet do not understand? That is more
than likely the case. However, if the universe is an organic and atomic
computer creation, and if it is sentient then it is possible that what we have
come to call the spiritual world or spiritual dimension is all there is. At
this time, I lean in that direction. There is one thing that is undeniable.
What we call paranormal activity is reported extensively over all locations and
time eras. It crosses cultures and centuries and by the sheer preponderance of
the reporting it should be taken seriously. Especially when the reports are so
similar.
There is a growing number of panpsychists that offer the
possibility that it is all one thing. Many of them are well respected and
published scientists and philosophers. While not all of them are comfortable
calling consciousness spiritual, the fact is that it operates as essentially
the same thing. Most metaphysicians look at spirituality being another name for
panpsychism. It is definitely in this realm that all of the above-mentioned
paranormal phenomena can fit nicely together as one thing, and that is likely
why you have such wide reporting of a variety of phenomena at places like
Skinwalker Ranch in the Uintah Basin, and Mount Shasta in Northern California.
Up until the time that I began to understand panpsychism I had a hard time
accepting that cryptids, and portals and other spiritual anomalies accompanied
UFO/UAP activity. Panpsychism offers a unifying medium for all of them. Certainly,
panpsychism offers a plausible answer to the problem of inter-stellar
distances, explains how it is possible for extraterrestrials to hide in plain
sight. It also explains portals in the sky and on the earth.

God Beyond Religion: Mystical Revelation and the Ongoing Illumination Toward Spiritual Enlightenment
Proposition: It is my belief that there is mystical revelation from source in all of the sacred writings over the millennia. Finding and refining it is the process of illumination and has been done over the centuries and is still taking place today. It can be likened to spiritual spiral dynamics and needs to be an ever-ongoing process.
Let’s face it, orthodox Christianity did no real favors with
canonization of certain scripture. Mystic revelation from source should be
ongoing as people develop culturally, socially and spiritually. It should be
obvious that at least some of those writing down the narrative about Jesus did
not believe they were codifying anything but acting as a reporter. This is
obvious from Luke’s writings and also from whoever wrote the Johannine epistles.
Here are three examples:
Luke 1:1-3 “Since many have undertaken to set
down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us, (2)
just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were
eyewitnesses and servants of the word, (3) I too decided, after
investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly
account for you, most excellent Theophilus,”
Act 1:1-3
“In the first
book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus did and taught from the
beginning (2) until the day when he was taken up to heaven, after
giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.
(3) After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many
convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the
kingdom of God.”
1Jn 1:1-4
“We declare to you
what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our
eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of
life— (2) this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify
to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was
revealed to us— (3) we declare to you what we have seen and heard
so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with
the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. (4) We are writing these
things so that our joy may be complete.”
It seems rather clear to me from the above passages that
they were not trying to codify but rather report an important phenomenon that
they had witnessed, and that it was meant for them within the context of their
culture and time. In other words, it was for their contemporary audience, based
on their cultural norms. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that what they
wrote included mystical revelation from the creative source but also contained
the input that they naturally inherited from their culture, beliefs, and
customs. It is likewise reasonable to assume that those cultural and customary aspects
were not meant to be codified into perpetuity. At the same time it is also
reasonable to conclude that some of what they wrote as witnesses reflected
enlightened revelation they received from a messenger whose mission was to further
illuminate and correct what they had erroneously or mistakenly believed from
past revelation.
Therefore, it seems incumbent on those who follow these
traditions to apply the same kind of reporting and illumination into the
application of these mystical gems using spiritual discernment and mysticism.
In fact, it is an edict in the Johannine gospel. John 16:12-13 "I still have many things to say to you, but
you cannot bear them now. (13) When the Spirit of truth comes, he
will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will
speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to
come.” There is absolutely nothing in the above writing from
John’s gospel that states that shortly after the spirit comes it will then
reveal a set of principles and beliefs that can be codified as the final
message from source. In fact, that idea is preposterous. If one looks at the
evolution of culture and enlightened awareness that is set forth in spiral
dynamics it demands that this edict from John’s gospel be ongoing, and that the
actual canon can never be codified and sealed. However, neither does it mean
that it cannot be helpful in the effort to provide greater and greater illumination
with all of the spiritual and scientific discoveries that regularly change our
view of reality.
It is in this view that proposition above is stated. Wouldn’t
it be interesting to have a group of modern Christ followers take the edict of
John 16:12-13. This could be accomplished by using an understanding of the
first century history and culture coupled with spiritual illumination and
discernment to put together those aspects of the scripture that are indeed
mystical revelation from source and what is actually a product of the culture
that created them.
One thing is certain, the concept that the entire canon was
codified for perpetuity two thousand years ago in a culture that was far less humane
than our current culture. I know, many may try to point out the evil that seems
rampant in our culture today, but two things must be considered. First, most
people are kind, and spiral dynamics has shown that there is an upward spiral
of enlightenment that has increased the humaneness of humanity. Secondly, the
media and news outlets emphasize the apparent evil so that it holds a higher
place in our awareness, and it is likely that the incidence of what we call
evil is less in relation to overall population than it was in times past.
This would enable Christ followers, who believe there is a
command to create a better, more peaceful, and more loving humanity use the
best parts of their tradition to facilitate this growth and build a bridge that
is syncretistic and eclectic that could show the similarity of the mystical
message across cultures and religions. Further, it could create and environment
that would build tolerance of all people of all religions and likewise include
those who are completely non-religious.

God Beyond Religion: Skinwalker Ranch, Occam’s Razor, UFO’S and Mentalism
There is a fascinating show on the History Channel called “The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch.” I know, the History Channel has a dubious reputation, but this series is on the up and up based on the people featured in the show. Skinwalker Ranch is a ranch in the Uintah Basin of Northern Utah that has an infamous history surrounding UFO’s and a variety of other paranormal activities. It would take several posts to explain all that has gone on with the ranch but to list the phenomena, there is UFO/UAP activity, potential portals, poltergeist activity and cryptid activity. This has been documented over the century by many including the federal government. There have been mysterious cattle mutilations as well.
There have been three seasons produced already, and I
believe they are working on season four and if you want to binge on a series,
this one has my highest recommendation. It should also be noted that the U.S.
Defense Department recently organized the Unidentified Arial Phenomenon Task
Force (UAPTF.) It was disclosed on various YouTube channels, that the physicist
on the show, Dr. Travis Taylor is also chief scientist for UAPTF. I mention
this because I want to explain that not all the people on the show are fellow
travelers with what is called woo woo. And, I want to also explain that those
who are on this show have all experienced what one would call woo woo while
working on the experiments on the ranch.
The most recent owner of the ranch is in my view above
reproach with his integrity and honesty. He has devoted his time, energy, and
most telling his money to try and explore, explain and understand the anomalies
that have plagued and accompanied the ranch for at least the last eighty years.
They do scientific experiments and scientific inquiry to try to ascertain the
anomalies. This brings me to my purpose and interest in telling, about the
show, the ranch, and the work being done there.
They are trying to solve the mystery of the ranch through
scientific endeavor, and while they are uncovering a great deal of data, the
ranch seems to be an illusive entity. Yes, you read me right. The ranch behaves
like a cognizant entity. Perhaps more accurately, it behaves like a
pre-cognitive sentient entity. So where does Occam’s Razor fit into the
picture? In this case, not from a materialist, physicalist point of view but
from a mentalist perspective. As I have documented over and over in this blog,
there is a rich history that spans at least 5,000 years beginning with Hermetic
teaching that explains that the creative force of the universe is conscious
energy. This was passed on in western civilization through the Greeks and
recently revisited in what has been called the “new age” movement.
So, for Occam’s Razor, here are my thoughts. Occam’s Razor
states that the simplest explanation of a situation is probably the correct
one. how does this correlate with the Skinwalker Ranch show? The varied
phenomena that present on the ranch can be examined by measuring various types
of electromagnetic radiation and studying the concept of inter and intra
dimensional portals, unidentified ariel phenomenon, and cryptids. However, if
as is stated in the Kybalion, The All is Mind, the Universe is Mental, that is
the place to begin the investigation. Bringing in a genuine psychic, such as a
clairvoyant, clairsentient, or claircognizant would be a great place to begin
study.
It would require one who is grounded in the understanding
that the creative source of the universe is love and peace, and that peace is
the highest vibration prior to enlightenment. If such a person went to the
ranch with a reverent regard for the forces at play and was grounded in love,
light and peace at its highest vibrational state, then one could examine all
that is at play there and perhaps discover the most beneficial path for
exploring and explaining all the anomalies. That one would need to be cautioned
of the fact that originally, the ranch was the source of a conflict between
indigenous tribes and a curse put in place by one of the parties. Perhaps it
could be liberated from its malevolent past and become a jumping off place for
additional scientific and metaphysical study.

God Beyond Religion: Mystics, Mysticism, and Revelation
One of the ways we know about the creative source of the universe is through mystical revelation. Those who receive mystical revelation are mystics. Let’s look into the world of mystics and mysticism. When I was in evangelical orthodoxy, teaching seminary and preaching, most if not all of my colleagues believed that there was a difference between revelation and illumination. Their point was that only those who wrote the works in the accepted canon of scripture were able to have their writings be classified as revelation. Any insight received by a person after the time of the writing of the canon was simply illumination of the previous revelation. To this I merely call BS! First of all, if one thinks about it for more that a few minutes not guided by dogma that they are afraid to veer off from, it makes no sense that God would give final revelation to men in the Roman Iron Age that would be the final word for the rest of the time the planet exists. That makes a lot of assumptions that are not plausible. It assumes that humanity will not advance, and that spirituality will not evolve. It assumes that a small country with an insignificant population would have an even smaller segment be the arbiter of all truth for all time.
The truth is that mysticism and mystical revelation have
been ongoing since the dawn of humanity. Indigenous shamanic tribes of people
from all over the globe had very advanced spiritual understanding. Especially
in regard to the nature of reality, and the spiritual purpose for existence. So,
let’s return to the electromagnetic fields that are at the foundation of our
material and corporeal world. Using the example of microwaves, and radio waves
we can extrapolate that the brain waves are connected with the waves from the
unified field of consciousness; in what Rupert Sheldrake has identified as the
fields of morphic resonance and is the plausible source of all mystic
revelation. Further, every human is capable of tapping this source of
revelation. It is where all intuition comes from. Likewise, it is the source of
all of the mystics over the millennia as well as the source of the creativity.
In ancient Greece, they called it the muses. It is also the source of all
artistic inspiration. Most importantly it is nothing to fear, and it is NOT
demonic or evil. It is a natural phenomenon in reality.
It is also the source of spiritual awakening. It appears
that there is a rapid growth in spiritual awakening at this time, and it is
quite probably linked to our entering the Age of Aquarius. There is a
prediction that the planet is transitioning into a new stage of spiritual
density. This transition will result in the vibrations of everything on the
planet being raised to a higher level on the spiritual plane. The Kybalion
mentions three planes of existence. The material plane, the mental plane, and
the spiritual plane. The change that is taking place will eventually affect all
three planes. It will begin with the spiritual plane and move into the mental
plane and will ultimately change the material plane as well. It will end up making
mental alchemy easier. This will aid those who are practicing the law of
attraction.
One important aspect of this trend is that it will initiate
eclectic and syncretistic spirituality. More and more people will be able to
discern the mystical revelation found in all of the world religions and religion
itself and ritual will diminish. Dogma will give way to open minded acceptance
and wider tolerance of individuals that have differing views of spirituality.
There is a move toward truly being spiritual and not religious. Dogmatic
religions are toxic and abusive, and they will diminish until they completely
vanish.

God Beyond Religion: An Egalitarian Gnosticism
The case against Christian orthodoxy is really solid when viewed with an open mind. The practices of the orthodox movement in general are shady when it comes to deciding what is orthodoxy and what is heterodoxy. The facts are undisputable. There was a rich variety of Christianity’s in the second through third centuries. Further, one can surmise that there was a rich variety of literature produced in the second and third centuries. It is very probable based on the Nag Hammadi find that there was much more literature that did not meet orthodox standards that was destroyed and will possibly never be seen. Let’s face the fact. It was serendipitous that we found what we found in the nineteen-forties.
Please do not jump to the conclusion that I think everything
orthodox was wrong and evil and everything Gnostic and heterodox was right and
good. That is not my view at all. You could say that I was born an egalitarian.
From my earliest recollections I was always deeply concerned with what was fair
and right for all. I still am. Its probably the reason that I see the error in
the extreme polarization of our country these days. It almost seems like a plot
of a bad movie but that is another topic for another time. Suffice it to say
that egalitarianism in important to me.
While orthodoxy was not egalitarian neither was Gnosticism
and the other heterodox views. I guess this makes me one following the left-handed
spiritual path because for all of my years I have been a rebel. In a variety of
ways, I hate conformity. My main criticism of Gnosticism is that it is
exclusive. That is also my critique of Christianity, especially evangelical
orthodoxy. I would argue that it is exclusivity that has alienated so many from
Christianity. It creates an us verses them atmosphere. It creates a saint
verses sinner when the truth is we are all a little of both. It reminds me of
the Eagle’s lyrics “I’ve been searching for the daughter of the devil
himself, I’ve been searching for an angel in white, I’ve been waiting for a
woman who’s a little of both, I can feel her but she’s nowhere in sight” ~(One
of These Nights) I think that these lyrics could be a metaphor for what
most seek.
This is why I see the Gnosticism in some of John and some of
Paul (not the Beatles.) Both writers have an egalitarian Gnosticism. In fact,
universal reconciliation is an egalitarian doctrine, and it is present in both
the writings of John and Paul. I know, they also sound exclusive at times, but
that simply means they need to be discerned, and in my view that is
exactly where gnosis comes into play. We are first and foremost conscious
beings. If in fact we were created in the image of God, then that is
consciousness. The Logos is consciousness. I believe it is fair to equate
consciousness and spirit. In fact, we are tripart beings. We are body, spirit,
and soul. The body is our flesh, our corporeal, material existence. The spirit
is universal consciousness and our link to it. The soul is our individual
psyche or our individual consciousness.
That was the egalitarian message of Jesus according to both
John and Paul. We are the Logos in earthen vessels. This was the essential
spiritual (universal consciousness) message that Jesus brought to humanity. YOU,
I, and the FATHER are one. We are ALL wrapped up in each other because we all
proceed from consciousness. That is egalitarian Gnosticism in a nutshell. That
is the truth whether comprehended or not. All of us are moving in an upward
spiral toward that ever unfolding and expanding realization. The way to grasp
it with ever increasing degrees is to use our most important asset. It is our
spiritual intuition. It is the amalgamating of the spirit and the psyche. Trust
your gut! Both the orthodox scripture and the gnostic gospels contain spiritual
revelation from source. You are capable of deciding which!

God Beyond Religion: Cell Phones, Radios, and Consciousness
What do cell phones and radios have to do with consciousness?
Well perhaps nothing, but I sense that there is a comparison there. Let’s begin
with the Hermetic principal as above so below and as below so above. Nikola
Tesla was an eccentric genius and among many things, he researched
electromagnetic energy. He had predicted that electricity could be transported
freely through the air. Of course, Edison won out and created an electric grid
of wires that ended up costing humanity money but that is another story and off
the point.
While Tesla never achieved the success he desired, his work
has continued with others and has ended up producing a plethora of wireless
inventions, gadgets, and uses. Another pioneer in wireless technology was
Guglielmo Marconi. He is credited with the invention of the radio a similar use
for a different type of electromagnetic energy called radio waves. Whether radio
waves or microwaves our communications will never be the same.
This brings me to my point about consciousness. Where does
human creativity come from? The ancients used to credit the muses as being the
sources for creative people such as writers, poets, musicians, and artists. I listened
to a YouTube video of Michael Jackson in court when he was sued concerning his
song “Dangerous.” I would recommend you listen to it, at least mid-way through
where he demonstrates how he wrote songs. He stated that it came into his head,
and he would begin with beat-boxing the bass part. Next would come the overall
chords of the music with the same method of beatboxing. Next would come the
melody and lyrics. He would record each part and then he would go into the
studio and show the musicians what each part would sound like.
I myself, though not the genius that many are, have creative
and new ideas just pop into my head. Much of my blog writing is inspired by
these thoughts that seem to appear out of nowhere. This leads me to believe
that our brains are in fact a type of transceiver. We receive and transmit
ideas via this sort of electromagnetic waves. The brain and brain activity is the
result of oscillating waves of electronic impulses called brain waves. Is that
what links us to universal consciousness?
Science now understands that at the basic level of reality
are fields of energy. Of course, quantum mechanics suggests that there is a
unified field. Rupert Sheldrake has theorized that there are morphic fields of
resonance. Several other biologists have done experimental studies with these
fields and have found evidence that they exist, and that various species
communicate through them. Carl Jung the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst
that pioneered psycho analysis theorized that there is a collective unconscious
that people communicate with, get ideas from and transmit ideas too. There is also
a phenomenon in science called multiples. These are cases where more than one
person, not linked by locality or in any other way came up with the same theory
or equation at roughly the same time. By the same token, roughly around 500 BCE
give or take a hundred years or so, Lao Tzu wrote the Tao Te Ching, the Greeks
were writing about the Logos, and the Buddha was developing his teaching.
As I have studied these fields, I am becoming more and more aware
of the reality of them. To me, they seem like an ocean and flowing freely
within this ocean of electronic energy are all of these various fields. I
suspect that both, the microwave and radio wave energy that is used by the
materialistic world is hovering, swimming, floating in this ocean, but also simultaneously
are the morphic fields of resonance that include human and animal
consciousness, and if I may speculate plant consciousness and that the
indigenous description of the great spirit and mother earth, the sky, the
rivers, the mountains, the rocks, humanity and all flora and fauna share this
same cosmic soup of potentiality. One could apply the prefix morpho to all of
them because morpho means taking form. This is the way in which we participate
in creating reality.

God Beyond Religion: Dark Matter and Dark Energy
Consider a panpsychism view of reality. That view suggests that at the source of the universe is consciousness. So far as we know consciousness is invisible. Both the Hermetica and the Bible speak about creation coming from darkness. “Darkness was upon the face of the deep,” and “hovering over the dark waters of potentiality.” Panpsychism believes that within consciousness lies all potentiality. Quantum mechanics speaks of potentiality instead of materiality. Lao Tzu said that the ineffable Tao was the mother of all spirit and matter. Again, the spirit is likened to the wind or the breath because it is invisible. Therefore since there is an ubiquitous idea that consciousness or mind is the creative source of the universe in ancient writings and philosophies, I think it is safe to assume that the bible and the hermetica are both referring metaphorically to dark matter and dark energy.
Here is a quote from an article about the effort to find out more about dark matter...
“It
is essentially impossible to understand our observation of history, of the
evolutionary cosmos without dark matter,” Manalaysay said.
"Bless
me with Knowledge of Atum,' I begged. Suddenly everything changed before me.
Reality was opened out in a moment. I saw the boundless view. All became
dissolved in Light — united within one joyous Love. Yet the Light cast a
shadow, grim and terrible, which, passing downwards, became like restless
water, chaotically tossing forth spume like smoke. And I heard an unspeakable
lament — an inarticulate cry of separation. The Light then uttered a Word,
which calmed the chaotic waters. My Guide asked: 'Do you understand the secrets
of this vision? I am that Light — the Mind of God, which exists before the
chaotic dark waters of potentiality. My calming Word is the Son of God — the
idea of beautiful order; the harmony of all things with all things. Primal Mind
is parent of the Word, just as, in your own experience, your human mind gives
birth to speech.”

Also, look at this quote from the New Testament: Heb 11:3 “ faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.”
COULD THE METAPHOR OF HERMES "THE DARK CHAOTIC WATERS OF POTENTIALITY BE "DARK MATTER"?
I personally find that the preponderance of evidence shows that mystical revelation from source has suggested for millennia that consciousness is the creative agent. This would be true of the Greek Logos, and the Chinese Tao as well. The descriptors of dark and invisible fit nicely into this theory.
